I’ll be honest, it took me a while to think, wait a second, do I really like this? But after sifting through a pile of new releases this week I realized that yes Virginia, I really do.
The Chicago based OK Go has created a really dynamic album for their 5th full length, which I suppose isn’t a surprise at all if you look back at their entire catalog; listening to it all you realize just how varied their sounds are within the alt/indie rock space. OK Go’s lead singer, Damian Kulash, describes Hungry Ghosts as being their most electronic yet and the whole affair is them “just trying things that are unknown” to the band. Because of that the album as a whole covers a spectrum from pulsing syncopation to acoustic etherealism with a foot in a more electronic sound than they have explored before and it works great.
Fun stuff. Turn it up and as always, enjoy.
